Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Brown butter chocolate chip cookies are a delightful twist on classic chocolate chip cookies, with a rich, nutty flavor from the browned butter. Here's a recipe to make these delicious cookies:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions:

  1. Start by browning the butter. In a saucepan, melt the two sticks of butter over medium heat. Stir frequently and keep a close eye on it. The butter will go through several stages, from melting to foaming and sizzling, and then it will start to brown. You'll see brown specks at the bottom of the pan, and the butter will have a nutty aroma. Once it turns a golden brown color, remove it from the heat and transfer it to a heatproof bowl to cool. Make sure not to burn the butter, as it can go from brown to burnt quickly.

  2. Let the browned butter cool to room temperature. You can speed up the cooling process by placing it in the refrigerator for a short time, but it should be softened, not re-solidified.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and granulated sugar. Pour the cooled browned butter over the sugars and mix until well combined.

  5. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture and mix until smooth.

  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  7. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the cookie dough.

  8. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the cookie dough for at least 30 minutes. Chilled dough results in thicker, chewier cookies.

  9. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  10. Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving enough space between them for the cookies to spread.

  11. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.

  12. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  13. Enjoy your delicious brown butter chocolate chip cookies while they're still warm or at room temperature.

These cookies have a wonderful depth of flavor from the browned butter and are sure to be a hit with anyone who loves chocolate chip cookies.
